If you’re having an island built from scratch, consider adding a hideaway table to the design. The piece slides out for meals or when you need extra space for food prep, and tucks back in when not in use.
Keep your schedule and grocery list organized and in sight by painting an accent wall with chalkboard paint. The family-friendly surface can be done in basic black or in other colors to match an existing design scheme.
All you need for a slender dining space is a piece of wood and some sturdy L-brackets. Install the ledge on an empty wall or in front of a window. Pair with stools that can be tucked neatly under the bar and out of the way.
While this layout offers plenty of storage, all that cabinetry can make the space feel dark and cramped. A coat of white paint can brighten up the room, and exposed shelving will make it feel more open.
