A hotel chic bedroom is the ultimate escapism. Retreat from reality into a grown-up scheme of warm neutrals and high-end touches. Fine textiles are at the heart of this smart scheme. Add a plush headboard and divan bed laden with pillows and throws in tactile fabrics like linen, cotton and satin. A buttoned footstool is a stylish touch to hold additional blankets ready for chilly nights. Lattice-panel art hung above the bed suggests that far-flung glamour of a Moroccan riad. Close your eyes and dream you’re tucked away from the bustle in a tranquil hideaway. Add drama to a rich and indulgent backdrop of biscuit, coffee and cream with sophisticated black trimmings and sturdy dark wood furniture.
Picking a grey for your walls is rather like choosing a white paint – there are far more to sift through than you might ever imagine. To get the best look for your space, try out plenty of samples on your walls and see how they work in different lights before committing. This soft grey sits beautifully with luxe cream furnishings and comforting textiles, creating a harmonious scheme.
Revamp an old headboard with a fun, photo-motif fabric. Choose a modern design unusual enough to take pride of place in a minimal bedroom. Because you’re only covering a headboard, the outlay for fabric shouldn’t be big. Paint walls white to let the fabric print stand out and lift the look with a touch of lime using two citrus cushions and curtains. Dress the bed with plain linen to continue the white scheme.
Try to keep to just one or two colours so you don’t over-complicate things. Choose papers from the same wallpaper range for a co-ordinated effect or go for clashing patterns and colours if you prefer a more dramatic look.
